JANUARY 2, 2004: Fabien Barthez joins Marseille from Manchester United on a loan deal
In October 2003, after two good seasons with the Red Devils, Fabien Barthez lost the starting goalkeeper's job and Tim Howard became the number one. Manchester United agreed to release the French international keeper from his contract and to loan Barthez out to Olympique Marseille for the end of the season.
For his first match with Marseille on January 3rd against Strasbourg in the French National Cup, he stopped two penalty kicks, scored the last one and qualified his club for the next round. With Fabulous Fab' and Didier Drogba, Marseille headed to the UEFA Cup final this season but Barthez received a red card and José Anigo's men lost 0-2 against Valencia.
1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner with France, Barthez won also the 1993 Champions League with Olympique Marseille. His finished his career with FC Nantes in 2007.
